Tourists are always recommended to do a bit of shopping and enjoy
other activities while vacationing in the various areas of the
Dominican
Republic. Although tourists in many adult themed vacations
can practically stay in their resort and enjoy their companion
without extra costs, the
Dominican Republic should always be
explored. The interesting culture and its people should never be
missed. The souvenirs that you can get from
various shops is always a
good way to remember your trip to this country.
Going out of the resort to visit other places does not mean you
have to spend hundreds of dollars more in a single day. There are
some things that can
be expensive in the Dominican Republic, but
there are also ways to enjoy this country with your companion without
spending too much. You just have to
know when and how to save money
while in the DR.
Haggling
Haggling will always be part of your shopping experience in the
Dominican Republic. Some products can be marked-up considerably
higher if they sense that
the tourist is willing to pay anything for
a particular product. This is especially true when you are shopping
for a souvenir unique to the country. If you want to
avoid spending
too much on a souvenir, haggle as much as you can and leave if you
can't get the price that you want. Paintings and wood sculptures will
initially
be priced more than $100 but you can actually get that same
piece at no more than $50. Don't worry if you miss the chance of
buying the product by walking
away - there are other stalls that
offer almost the same product at a lower price.
Shopping for Souvenirs
If you're looking for some souvenirs, never limit yourself to some
wood sculptures and paintings. Look for a type of stone called
"Larimar," as this is only found in
this region. Earrings
with this stone should cost no more than $25. Larimar has blend of
blue and green. Another interesting product from the Dominican
Republic is
coffee. Look for well-sealed coffee in malls and they can
be bought for around $4.00 per pound.
Spending for the Nightlife
The nightlife in the Dominican Republic is very interesting. You
can find clubs that feature traditional Merengue music, or the more
popular club sounds. Either way, most
of these clubs do not have
entrance fees and the drinks are not that expensive. You could also be enticed to enjoy tequila in the Dominican
Republic or an international
brand of beer. However, if you want to
save on your nightly activities, look for local beer since they taste
just as great but are never pricey. Expect to spend $1.00
per bottle
of beer.
Transportation
Transportation is generally inexpensive in the Dominican Republic.
To be safe, stick to taxis. Although they can be a bit expensive
compared to other modes of
transportation, it's still a good way to
reach your destination. With safe transportation, you can enjoy
shopping and the nightlife with your beautiful companion.
